REMINDER PEN MEETING, Wednesday, December 13th, 2017

PEN.jpg

PEN San Francisco Meeting:

Anxiety, LD & Attention Issues at School
Wednesday Dec. 13, 2017

7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

 Sterne School, Downtown San Francisco

Dear Friends of PEN,

It is my pleasure to invite you to a PEN San Francisco meeting! The PEN team at CHC would love to meet with you, provide an update on the status of PEN programs at CHC, and address any questions that PEN members may have.

This FREE meeting will also feature a 45-minute presentation on Anxiety, LD & Attention Issues at School by Chris Harris, Director of the Esther B. Clark School, plus time for Q&A at the end.

Location: Sterne School, 838 Kearny Street, San Francisco, CA

We know anxiety can be a very debilitating condition for students at school. Their preoccupation with an inevitable social or academic disaster at some point during their school day is closely associated with emergent learning and attention issues.

Drawing on his 25 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in special education schools, Chris will discuss how important it is to coordinate academic accommodations with therapeutic interventions to mitigate this emotional hardship for our kids. He will also touch on depression, a close cousin to anxiety with both similar and unique effects on students in school.

I hope that you will join us to touch base with other PEN members and the PEN team at CHC, and to hear an expert presentation on this important topic. Space is limited, so be sure to register today!

Please join us and share with friends.

Sincerely,

Michele White

Teen Gender Identity Today

Parent Coalition.jpg

Teen Gender Identity Today

A Panel Event with Lisa Kenney, Gender Spectrum; Dr. Ilana Scherer, Child and Adolescent Gender Clinic, UCSF; and Moderator Lyndsey Schlax, Ruth Asawa SOTA

Do you sometimes feel that you don't truly understand contemporary issues and topics around gender identity? Do you want to know more about the most recent understandings of gender, why it's changing, and how to best keep up to date? Or perhaps you want to know more in order to support someone in your life, including a gender expansive teen?

The Parents' Coalition has organized a panel of experts who will answer your questions about gender. The event will start with a "101" on the basics that clarifies the difference between identity, orientation, and expression, and gives an overview of the experiences and needs of gender expansive students. It will explain why some language, terms, and ways of thinking about gender are on their way out, and highlight key issues in today's politics of gender, particularly among high schools in the Bay Area.

By the end of the evening, audience members will know how to speak sensitively, intelligently, and currently about gender with their teens, and will have many resources they can use and share with people in their lives.
