Important information about 2017-18 Bell Schedule change!

In preparation for next school year, we wanted to share some exciting new developments regarding our bell schedules that will take effect on the first day of school, Monday 21 August 2017.

In sum, we will no longer have a late start Wednesday bell schedule. Instead we will have an early release Monday bell schedule. Additionally, as part of our transition towards a project-based service-learning model, we will incorporate block scheduling two days per week. The essential reason for this shift is simple: creating robust opportunities for professional collaboration time positively influences both student achievement and teacher performance. Below we have highlighted key information regarding these changes:

We are working closely with our YMCA afterschool partners to reimagine and redesign our programs and services throughout the week, especially on Monday afternoons to provide students with learning and growth opportunities that are coherently aligned with our instructional day. In addition, we would love to partner with families to ensure students are productive and engaged on Monday afternoons, i.e., connecting students to local libraries, mentorships at local elementary schools, community service, tutoring and homework support, etc. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Kelly Roja, Community Relations Specialist, via email (rojak@sfusd.edu) or telephone at (415) 469-4520.
